Sports evening with John Beresford

Liversedge Cricket Club is hosting a sporting evening featuring guest speaker John Beresford and comedian Lester Crabtree on Friday March 3rd.

Tickets are now on sale, priced at £20, for the event which has been kindly sponsored by the Utopia Group and Shama restaurant.

Beresford started his footballing career with Manchester City, and went on to play for Barnsley, Portsmouth, Southampton and Newcastle United.

He is best remembered for his spell at Newcastle between 1992 and 1998 where his attacking tendencies were crucial for the team known at the time as ‘The Entertainers’ under Kevin Keegan.

Beresford is also remembered by some for missing his spot-kick in the 1992 FA Cup semi-final penalty shootout against Liverpool whilst playing for Portsmouth.

Nowadays he can be seen on television as a pundit for ITV Tyne Tees and ESPN, and he is becoming a popular speaker on the after-dinner circuit with his natural humour in telling stories from his playing days with legends such as Alan Shearer, David Ginola and Paul Gascoigne.

Crabtree has worked alongside speakers including Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno and Jimmy Greaves to name but a few, and has appeared on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway plus Sky’s Just For Laughs.

The ticket price includes one free draught pint and a hot buffet and can be purchased behind the bar or by ringing Matthew Butler on 07984 614891.
